Just as owning a paintbrush doesn’t make you an artist, owning a camera doesn’t make you a photographer. Not even a camera with all the bells and whistles. That’s because it’s the artistic eye, knowledge and experience of the person behind the camera that makes the difference.
Andrea Joliat (Andy) has been a professional photographer for three decades. Through years of work and continued study she has achieved the distinction of being one of 3% of photographers in the US who are certified by the Professional Photographers of America.
Does the idea of posing in front of a camera make you nervous? Don’t be. Portrait sessions with Andy are fun and relaxing. She enjoys the time she spends with her clients and it shows in the natural and expressive artwork she creates. Whether in her comfortable Lexington center studio or on location she has the ability to create images that capture the personality and spirit of her subject. She is able to coax a natural and comfortable even out of the most self conscious.
Andy works with you upfront to determine what style you like: traditional, captured moment or ‘relationship’ portraiture- a focus on the bonds between family members. Do you have features you want to hide? She will find angles and lighting to minimize them.
Even the most natural looking portraits don’t just happen. A lot of behind-the-scenes arranging goes into each one. Andy explains how the clothing and setting will affect the overall feeling. She is eager to guide you with decisions on everything from shoes to hair styles. Planning with her beforehand helps take away your worries during the session.
Later, Andy meets again with her clients for what she calls ‘view and choose’ time. She projects the images onto the wall so that they can be seen in real-life sizes. Whether the client wants a single framed piece for over the mantle or a fun wall collection of twelve different images, she’ll help guide the decision-making until everyone is happy. Museum quality black and white, framed wall collections and canvas gallery wraps are her most popular styles.

If you’re marketing yourself as a professional you need to look like one – this is not the place to cut corners.
