You drive by it everyday, but have you been inside the Buckman Tavern and Musuem Shop? Managed by the Lexington Historical Society, Buckman Tavern on the Lexington Battle Green is not just a tourist destination; it’s also a wonderful Museum Shop with gifts and collectibles for all occasions.
Items for sale in the museum shop include:
• High quality reproductions of items in the Society’s collections
• A rich array of books on American and Lexington history
• Historical toys and clothing for children
• Prints, photographs and maps of Lexington
• Collectibles and housewares
The Buckman Tavern is the perfect place to shop for a retirement or special occasion gift, holiday presents, or a memento for a guest when you travel.
While shopping, you’ll also want to explore the Museum. Best known as the headquarters of the Lexington militia, Buckman Tavern appears today very much as it did on that fateful morning in 1775. Inside see the original seven foot-wide taproom fireplace and bar, the old front door (with its bullet hole made by a British musket ball during the Battle) and a portrait of John Buckman, the proprietor of the tavern in 1775.
Admission to Buckman Tavern is $6 adults/$4 children; a “First Shot” admission package ($10 adults/$6 children) includes entry to the Hancock-Clarke House and Munroe Tavern as well as Buckman.
Visit the Historical Society’s website at www.lexingtonhistory.org to see what we offer and to shop on-line. Historical Society members receive a 10% discount on Shop purchases and free admission to the historic houses. You can join on-line or call 781-862-1703 for more information.
